As European regulators push for accelerated adoption of instant payments, they have also raised the bar for payment security with the Verification of Payee (VoP) mandate. Payment Service Providers (PSPs) are now tasked with a comprehensive project touching various aspects of their organisations: from core-banking and channels to domestic and international payments. Additionally, they'll need to expose an "open" API, similar to what was required for open banking.
Given the ambitious timelines for implementation, we are pleased to offer our latest whitepaper to guide PSPs in their VoP project.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
- A breakdown of the VoP mandate and its implications for the payment industry.
- Expert perspectives on meeting and exceeding new regulatory standards.
- Practical strategies and insights for ensuring compliance, enhancing payment security, and maintaining customer trust.
Contributions to the whitepaper include expertise from:
- Christian Sarafidis, Chief Executive EMEA Financial Services at Microsoft, on leveraging cloud integration for digital banking transformation.
- Jeroen Holscher, Global Head of Payment Services at Capgemini, discusses critical VoP integration aspects within banking channels, underscoring data quality and fraud prevention.
- Eran Vitkon, Head of Open Banking Solutions at Finastra, shares the collaborative role of innovative solutions in fraud prevention within instant payment processes.
- Ed Metzger, VP of Payments Efficiency at LexisNexis® Risk Solutions, provides a global perspective on VoP's impact on fraud prevention.
- Laurent Sarrat, CEO and Co-Founder of Sis ID, offers insights on VoP applications for large corporations and the importance of fraud detection.
- Frans C. van Beers, Senior Policy Consultant Payments at the Dutch Payments Association and Chair CoP (VoP) Task Force at the European Payments Council (EPC), discusses standardization efforts within SEPA.
- Vitus Rotzer, Chief Revenue Officer at Bottomline, brings insights from the UK’s Confirmation of Payee service and its applicability to the VoP initiative.

iPiD is a fast-growing, venture-backed fintech start-up that was founded in late 2021 by a global team who have held senior roles at major payments and technology companies, including SWIFT and Thomson Reuters.
In addition to our HQ in Singapore, our global team has representatives in India, Belgium, the Americas, UAE, Malaysia, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, and Vietnam.
iPiD’s vision is to make cross-border payments easy, secure, and seamless.
We achieve this by partnering with financial services providers (banks, payment systems, payment fintechs, wallets…) to deliver an addressing data platform that helps the payment industry to provide a more efficient and user-friendly payment journey.
iPiD is built for all – we do not replace banks, payment fintech, wallets, or remittance companies; nor do we replace existing payment rails.
Our Advisory Board includes senior figures from across the industry: Christian Sarafidis, Microsoft Chief Business Development Officer WWFSI; Kosta Peric, Deputy Director, Financial Services for the Poor, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Nick Lewins, former banking Chief Technology Officer and now an advisor in data and AI, cloud technology and digital transformation.
